It depends on how you set it up — you have full control over:

Your best option for making good money is to choose the parent-funded version. For example:

If you choose a parent-funded model and charge $10 per class, and you run weekly classes with 12 kids using 6 kits (2 kids per kit), you would earn around $125 profit per month after paying the fixed monthly licensing fee.

However, if you charge $20 per class with the same weekly setup (12 kids, 6 kits), your profit increases to around $600 per month after the fixed licensing fee.

There are no hidden costs — the monthly licensing fee is the only required cost.

Option 1: School offers the program for free to students. In this case, the school/state covers the monthly licensing fee.

You can fund this fee through:

• School budget/funding
• Grants or sponsorships
• Other internal resources

Option 2: Make the program fully or partially parent-funded. Parents pay either:

• A seasonal price (for a set number of classes), or
• A per-class fee, or
• A monthly fixed fee

These payments can fully or partially cover the monthly licensing fee, depending on your setup.

The answer should be, “No.” In our experience, principals are happy for their teachers to offer an educational afterschool service to their school community and for teachers to earn additional income in such a rewarding way. That said, successfully leading an afterschool program at your school does require approval from the school’s administration. STEAM Academy is here to support you through the process of securing that approval by providing informative materials and joining a call with your principal and/or superintendent.

After completing 4 hours of initial training and investing a few hours into launching the program at your school, the ongoing time commitment is up to you. To teach a single 90-minute lesson to 1 class group (up to 18 students recommended) per week, we recommend at least 30 minutes of preparation time. This would equate to roughly 2 to 2.5 hours per week.

Correct! No hidden or upfront costs. You only start paying the monthly licensing fee once your program actually begins. Before launch, training and marketing materials are included for free to help you fill your group. You can also cancel anytime—you’ll only be charged up to the last class you teach (as determined by usage of the Revolution Robotics app and corresponding robot brain IDs licensed to you).
